Preschool Literacy Based Activities

Honeybee's ABC Uppercase Matching
This activity was made with bees that I purchased from Walgreen's (they were actually key chains with coin holders. I cut off the keychain from the back of it).  I found the black foam board and honey pots at the Dollartree. I used my Cricut machine to cut out the red letters on the honeypots. For durability I covered the entire board with a clear packing tape. I currently teach three year olds, they loved this activity.

Five Silly Monkeys Interactive Flannel Board
I purchased the tri-fold board at the Dollartree, the monkey masks at Party City and the flannel board set is free on: www.kizclub.com remember to laminate all of your projects for long lasting durability. My students loved taking turns with the monkey masks reenacting the story.

If You Give A Pig A Pancake Preschool Literacy Pack
I love making these literacy packs because of there many uses. I use them in class, for Take Home Book Bags, and for Family Reading & Literacy Nights. There are four different activities in this picture: Pancake Number Matching Sets, A Pancake Toss, Making Pancakes Sequencing Cards, and Piggy's Pancake Upper/Lowercase Matching. I also have two interactive songs to accompany this pack: Flippin the Flapjacks & the Piggy Polka for the "Mouse Cookies Treasury Book" by Laura Numeroff. I made my activities from clipart and found the griddles and spatulas at the Dollartree. I found the Pig Puppet at a NAEYC conference a few years ago and the Piggy Pancake griddle on amazon.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Toddler Literacy Pack
This activity is great for younger children just beginning to recognize letters, numbers, and colors. I made all three activities and hope to soon have them available for you to download & print. I hot glued milk jug lids to the back of the letters so that it would be easier for smaller hands to manipulate. I used velcrox dots to attach the colors and caterpillars.

Paint Paddle Beginning Sounds
This was a very easy activity to make, just a little time consuming. I purchased the large paint sticks from Walmart for 29 cents each, the wooden pieces (Ladybug, Pig, & Turtle) were 59 cents each and I brought the small bottles of acrylic paint for 59cents each. I painted the sticks to match the wooden items. They were hot glued to the paint sticks. I found the letters and the circular pieces from a website on pinterest.  Look under "Beginning Sounds Paint Sticks".
Popcorn Beginning Sounds
This activity was made with a white foam board, and small plastic popcorn containers purchased at my favorite place, the Dollartree. I also found the popcorn stickers there. The containers are attached to the board with Heavy Duty velcrox strips. The beginning sounds popcorn pieces are hot glued to large popsicle sticks. I always cover my foam boards with clear packing tape for durability.
The Doorbell Rang- Rote Counting
The Doorbell Rang is one of my favorite books. I was thinking of ways to make this story interactive so I made cardboard cookies for the students to count with. You could always use real cookies that the student could eat after to bring the book to life.
Cars Upper/Lowercase Matching
This was a fun activity to make. I purchased a blue magnetic board from Walmart and I found the cars from free clipart images. I laminated the cars and the road before attaching magnetic strips. The boys in my class loved this activity. Because my students don't recognize most lowercase letters I made sure the cars were the same color as the uppercase letters.

Froggy Gets Dressed Magnetic Story Board
How much fun is it to retell a story with magnetic pieces. I purchased a pack of standard size magnetic sheets fit for an ink jet printer from Staples. They are very pricey! The flannel board set is free on: www.kizclub.com
